Governor Ducey Announces Reopening Guidance
Yesterday Governor Doug Ducey held a press conference to announce Executive Order 2020-34 which contains guidance on resuming additional business operations for barbers, cosmetologist and dine-in restaurants. He also issued Executive Order 2020-35 regarding reporting by nursing and residential care institutions. Here is an overview:
- Friday May 8th, retail can be open for business with limited occupancy. Find the retail guidance here.
- Friday May 8th, licensed Title 32 salon and cosmetology businesses can open. You can find that guidance here. All openings are voluntary.
- Monday May 11th, dine-in establishments can operate. Dine-in guidance can be found here. All openings are voluntary.
- Executive Order 2020-35 regarding reporting by nursing care institutions and residential care institutions related to COVID 19. Read that here.

Tempe Emergency Loan Criteria Expands to Include Businesses with 50 or Less Employees
The Tempe Small Business Emergency Loan program, in partnership with with Desert Financial, has funded several loans for Tempe Businesses since it's announcement two weeks ago.
In order to serve a larger amount of businesses, the criteria no longer limits businesses with 5 or more employees. Starting now, the eligibility criteria for the emergency loans now include "Tempe Businesses with under 50 employees".

Chambers Ask Congress to Help Nonprofits
Like many other organizations, nonprofits have been financially harmed during this crisis. Some have had to close their doors, while others are on the brink unless Congress acts.
A coalition of 3,738 organizations, including the Tempe Chamber, sent a letter to Congress urging to extend relief to local chambers of commerce, civic groups, trade associations, and other nonprofits so they can continue to provide important, community-minded services. |

Tempe Wastewater Helps COVID-19 Scientific Data
In an innovative partnership to prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19, the City of Tempe is working with scientists from Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute to study the city's wastewater. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is the science of studying community sewage for public health information.
To better understand the science behind the wastewater data, this dashboard displays emerging research about the “COVID-19 gene copies per liter” measured within five collection areas throughout the city. Lean more here. |
