Details of a Republican budget plan were made public early last week. However, the budget still lacks the votes it needs to pass. The budget includes a $3 billion tax cut over the next three years by collapsing the income tax brackets to a single 2.5% rate in 2023. Although an agreement has been made between legislative leadership and Governor Ducey, many other Republicans have yet to concur.

It is undeniable that the 2022 election is gearing up to be a momentous one, as all statewide offices will be on the ballot. Two candidates announced their bid for the State's highest office on last Monday. Current State Treasurer Kimberly Yee and Regent Karrin Taylor Robson released their campaign ads this week. There is speculation that current Secretary of State Katie Hobbs will join Marco Lopez in the Democratic bid for the same office.

Furthermore, current State Representative Daniel Hernandez (D-Tucson) also announced his run for United States Representative Ann Kirkpatrick's seat last Thursday. Representative Kirkpatrick announced in March she will not seek re-election, which has since opened the flood gates for Arizona's Congressional District 2. As a former intern for former congresswoman Gabrielle "Gabby" Giffords, Representative Hernandez is now running to serve in her old congressional seat. He is joined by current State Representatives Kirtsen Engel (D-Tucson) and Randy Friese (D-Tucson).
