Governor Ducey Issues New Executive Order
Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order Monday morning that reinstates that an individual receiving unemployment benefits must actively be looking for work in order to receive benefits. Governor Ducey waived the requirement last year as a result of COVID-19. The Arizona Department of Economic Security will begin enforcing the reinstated requirement on Sunday, May 23rd. Restaurant Revitalization Fund – This program provides emergency assistance for eligible restaurants, bars, and other qualifying businesses impacted by COVID-19.

SBA Launches $5,000 Supplemental Targeted Advance – Effective April 22, 2021, SBA Office of Disaster Assistance (“ODA”) is launching the $5,000 Supplemental Targeted Advance program, which was part of the American Rescue Plan Act signed into law on March 11, 2021. Only businesses invited to apply for the Targeted EIDL Advance can also be considered for the Supplemental Targeted Advance. SBA-ODA will contact potentially eligible business entities directly to apply for the Targeted EIDL Advance; upon completion of the application, a determination will be made if they also qualify for the Supplemental Targeted EIDL Advance.

The Census Bureau announced last Monday that Arizona will not gain an additional congressional seat. This is the first time since 1960 that Arizona will not pick up a seat. Results indicate that the official count does not warrant another congressional seat. However, some speculate that part of the Hispanic population chose not to respond to the survey, keeping Arizona at nine members in the United States House of Representatives.  

Additionally, Governor Ducey signed 17 bills last week. They range from health spa memberships to theme park districts. Of particular note is House Bill 2862 sponsored by Representative Michelle Udall (R-Mesa), which allows school districts and charter schools to modify the traditional instructional time model. This is a direct result of COVID-19 and the challenges schools delt with regard to student instruction time.

SBA Shuttered Venue Operations Grant Application Now Open

The U.S. Small Business Administration has reopened the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant application portal as of April 24, 2021, for operators of live venues, live performing arts organizations, museums and movie theatres, as well as live venue promoters, theatrical producers, and talent representatives to apply for critical economic relief.

Loanable Technology Pilot Program: Connect Tempe

The Tempe Public Library in partnership with the City of Tempe's Human Services department offer a new pilot program, Connect Tempe, that will help bridge the digital divide. City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine Updates

Tempe has two COVID-19 testing locations at Kiwanis Park and Big Surf. The Kiwanis Park location, operated by Embry Health, offers free saliva diagnostic testing. The Big Surf location, operated by Nutrynt, offers free diagnostic testing plus rapid and antibody tests for a fee. Bring your ID and insurance card if you have one. Learn more.
