2021 Business Excellence Award Finalists Announced
The Tempe Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce six finalists for the Business Excellence Award in both the Small and Large Business category. These awards recognize companies that have demonstrated a record of business success, community involvement, leadership, dedication to employees, commitment to customer service, and membership in the Tempe Chamber of Commerce.

The recipients of the 2021 Business Excellence Award, in both categories, will be announced at the State of the Chamber & Annual Awards to be held as a live broadcast on June 25, 2021, at 9:00 am. Learn more.

Legislators passed and Governor Ducey signed landmark legislation this week that significantly expanding gaming in Arizona. Provisions of HB 2772 and SB 1797 allow for fantasy sports betting, event wagering at sports venues and casinos, wagering on college sports, and expanded tribal gaming (e.g. craps, roulette, baccarat). Sports venues and casinos are expected to expand operations in accordance with the new law before the end of the year.
 
Budget meetings continued this week and became a bit testy between House and Senate leadership. At issue is a House Republican leadership proposal to compress Arizona’s four personal income tax brackets into one. Arizona municipalities receive a portion of the revenue from the income tax in the form of state shared revenues. The purported reduction in revenue to local governments has become a point of contention in budget negotiations.

Business Academy Recap

Last month, the Tempe Chamber Business Academy, a virtual curriculum developed by the Chamber’s Businesses Innovation and Strategy Council designed to give businesses and business leaders the knowledge they need to grow their companies and strengthen our community, concluded. Academy participants received academically structured hands-on training in various disciplines ranging from customer acquisition, to marketing, to human resources, to finance.

TCAA Food Pantry Summer Hours

In preparation for the summer heat, pantry hours are changing as of Monday, May 3rd. The new client hours are listed below. As always, volunteering begins 30 minutes before opening.

Monday - 7:30am to 10:30am
Tuesday - 7:30am to 10:30am and 4:00pm to 6:30pm
Wednesday - 7:30am to 10:30am and 4:00pm to 6:30pm
Thursday - 7:30am to 10:30am and 4:00pm to 6:30pm
Friday - 7:30am to 10:30am

City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine Updates

Tempe has two COVID-19 testing locations at Kiwanis Park and Big Surf. The Kiwanis Park location, operated by Embry Health, offers free saliva diagnostic testing. The Big Surf location, operated by Nutrynt, offers free diagnostic testing plus rapid and antibody tests for a fee. Bring your ID and insurance card if you have one. Learn more.
