Capitol Session Statistics as of 4/09/2021

Days: 89
Number of Bills Posted: 1708
Bills Passed: 252
Bills Signed: 189

Governor Doug Ducey signed legislation aimed to protect businesses acting in good faith during COVID-19 from frivolous lawsuits. Senate Bill 1377, sponsored by Senator Vince Leach (R-Tucson), fulfills one of Governor Ducey's top legislative priorities. The new law provides legal framework for when a liability claim can be brought against a business in relation to COVID-19 while still ensuring that claims based on gross negligence and willful misconduct can still be heard.

According to the Arizona Constitution, the legislative session is 100 days. However, together the Senate President and House Speaker can extend the legislative session. Lawmakers in the House have had small group budget discussions and will continue to iron out the details in the coming weeks. It is likely that the Legislative Session will be extended.

On Monday, Governor Doug Ducey signed legislation to extend the state individual income tax filing deadline from Thursday, April 15 to Monday, May 17 to match the federal government's decision to extend its filing deadline.
