Governor Announces New Business Protocols in New Executive Order

On Friday, March 5, Governor Doug Ducey announced the next phase of COVID-19 mitigation. For businesses, physical distancing and mask protocols will remain in place; however specific occupancy percentage limitations will expire. This applies to restaurants, gyms, theaters, water parks, bowling alleys, and bars providing dine-in services. Read the full Executive Order.

Tempe Chamber Signs Letter in Support of Extending the PPP Deadline

The Paycheck Protection Program has been instrumental in helping our members who have needed a little extra support to keep business going during the pandemic. Conversations in Leadership is Tomorrow!

Tempe Chamber Seeks Nominations for Board of Directors

The Call for Nominations is now open and the Tempe Chamber of Commerce is seeking candidates for its board of directors.

2021 Business Excellence and Business Woman of the Year Nominations are Open

The purpose of the Business Excellence award is to identify and recognize companies whose practices in business and employee development, community involvement, and customer service exemplify excellence. Three finalists will be selected in two categories: one for Small Businesses with 25 employees or less and Large Businesses with 25 employees or more. Fundraising Efforts

Downtown Tempe is getting more colorful. A building near the corner of Mill Ave. and 5th St will soon be the site of a 60-foot mural focused on diversity and inclusion. After a two-month selection process local artist, Isaac Caruso, was chosen to design and paint a 60-foot mural.

KJZZ Announces New Podcast Series

There is an identifiable link between the arts and most state economies. In Arizona, 90,000 jobs support the arts community, accounting for 3% of the state’s GDP. With nearly all concerts, festivals, and comedy shows canceled worldwide this past year, the live event industry is decimated. It is particularly tough for America’s small, independent venues—one survey in April found that 90% of these venues across America were in danger of closing. Fiesta Bowl Charities Delivers Charitable Giving of $5.5 Million for 2020-21 to Increase Total to $16 Million Over Last Five Years

Fiesta Bowl Charities helped Arizona communities, nonprofits and teachers during an unprecedented pandemic, to provide necessary resources that helped millions of Arizonans in the 2020-21 season. Within a total of $5.5 million in charitable giving, unique for this season was $1 million in emergency relief for COVID-19 and a $2 million donation to begin the Margaret T. Tempe Community Council Seeking Candidates for Board of Directors
 
Tempe Community Council is currently recruiting applicants for upcoming vacancies on their board of directors. A 501(c)3 human services nonprofit since 1972, TCC has a mission to “connect those in need with those who care.” Applications are being accepted until March 14. The board term will begin July 1, 2020. You must live or work in Tempe to be eligible. A diverse representation of individuals is desired who have a passion to help those in need and have experience and skills in a variety of areas, especially finance, legal, policy and facilitation; all applications are considered. City of Tempe Announces Character Area Planning Meetings for North Tempe

The City of Tempe has started the planning efforts to create a character area plan for north Tempe. Kick-off meetings will take place on March 15. The planning process is expected to last through the end of the year with several opportunities for public participation along the way. Residents, workforce members, students and others who care about the north Tempe area are invited to participate in all the meetings. Tempe Community Council has released a request for proposals for their planned 2021 Comprehensive Tempe Human Services Community Needs Assessment. City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine Updates

Tempe has two new COVID-19 testing locations at Kiwanis Park and Big Surf. The Kiwanis Park location, operated by Embry Health, offers free saliva diagnostic testing. The Big Surf location, operated by Nutrynt, offers free diagnostic testing plus rapid and antibody tests for a fee. Bring your ID and insurance card if you have one. Learn more.
