This Friday, February 19, at 8:00, am, The Tempe Chamber welcomes Tom Sullivan, Vice President of Small Business Policy of the U.S. Chamber as the presenter for our next Emerging Issues Forum: 2021 Small Business Outlook.

Tempe Leadership Hosts Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Mayor Corey Woods

Since 2008, Tempe Leadership has been offering an opportunity for alumni and the general public to learn more about personal paths to leadership, including the challenges and rewards of leadership. Conversations in Leadership gives us the opportunity to discuss leadership with proven leaders.

This year's program will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from 11:00, am – 12:30 pm features Senator Kyrsten Sinema and Tempe Mayor Corey Woods who will discuss leadership, challenges, and opportunities for the future.

Merle Fister Scholarship Application Extended

The Tempe Chamber Military Affairs Committee has opened the 2021 Merle Fister Scholarship application to eligible Tempe veterans and the deadline to apply has been extended until March 1, 2021. 

The annual $1,000 Merle Fister Scholarship is awarded to a Tempe veteran who is seeking to complete their academic career and is given based on character, leadership, academic pursuits, and financial need. The scholarship recipient will take part in the Red, White, and Blue Awards Ceremony held on April 14th to receive their recognition.
 
Business Woman of the Year Nominations are Open

The Tempe Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 26th annual Business Woman of the Year Award. The award recognizes an individual's excellence in their chosen field and demonstrated leadership within the community. The award honors those who serve as a positive role model to others and are active in community and Tempe Chamber programs. The recipient of the 2021 Business Woman of the Year award will be announced at the Tempe Chamber's Leadership Conference which will be a live broadcast on May 14, 2021. Nominations close on March 12, 2021.  Nominate someone today!

Landings Credit Union SBA PPP Loan Processing

Landings Credit Union is still processing SBA PPP loan requests! The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.

First Draw PPP Loans can be used to help fund payroll costs, including benefits, and may also be used to pay for mortgage interest, rent, utilities, worker protection costs related to COVID-19, uninsured property damage costs caused by looting or vandalism during 2020, and certain supplier costs and expenses for operations. You can apply for a First Draw PPP Loan until March 31, 2021.

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) now allows certain eligible borrowers that previously received a PPP loan to apply for a Second Draw PPP Loan with the same general loan terms as their First Draw PPP Loan.

Kyrene Teacher to Receive National Award

Kyrene del Norte and Kyrene de la Estrella music teacher Scott Harnisch will receive the prestigious California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence from the National Education Association (NEA) Foundation.

This award is granted to educators for their dedication to the profession, community, professional development, and attention to diversity and advocacy. Harnisch was nominated by the Arizona Education Association (AEA) before being selected by the NEA.
 
One Day Left to Nominate for the City of Tempe Sustainability Awards

The City of Tempe's Sustainability Commission is still accepting award nominations for the sustainability achievement of the year award. This award, open to any person, group, youth, or business, is meant to highlight people and projects in Tempe that are setting an example of how we can create a more sustainable and resilient city.  

Awards will be presented at the State of the Neighborhoods Awards & Workshop on Saturday, April 17, 2021.  Submit your business nomination by February 17, 2021.
 
City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine Updates

Tempe has two new COVID-19 testing locations at Kiwanis Park and Big Surf. The Kiwanis Park location, operated by Embry Health, offers free saliva diagnostic testing. The Big Surf location, operated by Nutrynt, offers free diagnostic testing plus rapid and antibody tests for a fee. Bring your ID and insurance card if you have one. Learn more.
