The Tempe Chamber of Commerce has announced February's Emerging Issues Forum to take place on February 19, 2021, at 8:00 a.m.  

Sponsored by SRP, this webinar will feature Vice President of Small Business Policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tom Sullivan who will focus on current Federal actions that are in place to help small businesses weather the Coronavirus pandemic, address what small businesses wish to see the new administration present to help them survive, and detail emerging new trends that will impact small businesses in Tempe and nationwide.

2021 Speaker Series: Lessons for Life & Leadership Continues This Friday

FUEL Young Professionals Donates Supplies to Tempe Elementary School District

During the month of January, the Tempe Chamber FUEL Young Professionals hosted a supply drive for Tempe Elementary School District as part of its community outreach objectives. Donations for the teachers were collected at Landings Credit Union and delivered to the district on January 20th. Learn more about engaging in our committees.
 
Military Affairs Committee Scholarship Accepting Applications for Tempe Veterans

The Tempe Chamber Military Affairs Committee has opened the 2021 Merle Fister Scholarship application to eligible Tempe veterans and will continue accepting applications through February 15, 2021. 

The annual $1,000 Merle Fister Scholarship is awarded to a Tempe veteran who is seeking to complete their academic career and is given based on character, leadership, academic pursuits, and financial need. The scholarship recipient will take part in the Red, White, and Blue Awards Ceremony held on April 14th to receive their recognition.

Valley Metro Announces New Express Busses

Last Friday, Valley Metro announced it will receive 30 new motorcoach busses to replace existing vehicles that will be retired. The new, modern-designed busses include enhanced features for commuters including USB chargers, personal overhead lights, air vents, and mobility-device bays located in a low-entry vestibule.  Read the full story. 
 
Nominations Open for the City of Tempe Sustainability Awards

The City of Tempe's Sustainability Commission is still accepting award nominations for the sustainability achievement of the year award. This award, open to any person, group, youth, or business, is meant to highlight people and projects in Tempe that are setting an example of how we can create a more sustainable and resilient city.  

Awards will be presented at the State of the Neighborhoods Awards & Workshop on Saturday, April 17, 2021.  Submit your business nomination by February 17, 2021.
 
Arizona Central Credit Union Opens "Succeed Scholarship"

Every year, Arizona Central Credit Union awards two (2) $8,000 CU Succeed Scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors.  Applications are currently open and must be postmarked no later than May 14, 2021. CLICK HERE to learn more about eligibility and other scholarship details. 
 
City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing & Vaccine Updates

Tempe has two new COVID-19 testing locations at Kiwanis Park and Big Surf. The Kiwanis Park location, operated by Embry Health, offers free saliva diagnostic testing. The Big Surf location, operated by Nutrynt, offers free diagnostic testing plus rapid and antibody tests for a fee. Bring your ID and insurance card if you have one. Learn more.

U.S. Small Business Administration Extends COVID-19 EIDL Loan Applications

Recently announced, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) extended the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) application to December 31, 2021. According to a recent release by the SBA, the deadline extension comes as a result of the recent bipartisan COVID-19 relief bill passed by Congress and enacted by President Trump on Dec. 27, 2020.

 
Arizona Commerce Authority Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP)

Companies hit hard by disruptions, layoffs, furloughs, loss of business, and other setbacks due to Covid-19 are encouraged to apply for emergency assistance through the Arizona Commerce Authority’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).
National Eviction Moratorium Update

A new COVID-19 stimulus deal reached in January will extend the national eviction moratorium through Jan. 31, 2021. Renters must meet certain qualifications and also submit a declaration form to their landlords.
