What Small Businesses Need to Know About the New Pandemic Relief Package
On Monday evening, Congress passed a $900 billion Covid relief bill to bring aid to those most affected by the pandemic.
The package includes over $284 billion in loans or businesses struggling with rent and payroll. Congress passed several changes to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) including a second draw for businesses who have exhausted their initial loan. Congress made additional changed to other programs that will benefit small businesses.

In addition to relief for business, the relief package includes a new round of stimulus checks for qualified individuals and families, an extension of unemployment benefits, and additional funding for vaccines and education. |

COVID-19 Vaccine Update
Last week, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health started COVID-19 vaccinations. To date, they have given out over 5,000 doses to members of the Phase 1A group, which includes healthcare workers, emergency medical services workers and long-term care facility staff and residents. The Tempe Chamber office will be closed on Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th in observance of Christmas, and will reopen on Monday, December 28th. Arizona State University Announces Spring Semester Changes
Announced on Thursday of last week, Arizona State University has decided to cancel spring break and shorten the spring semester to end on May 1, 2021. This announcement from Provost Mark Searle was made in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. |

Updates from the Office of Governor Doug Ducey
On December 16, 2020, Governor Ducey announced that Arizona continues to monitor COVID-19 with regard to the White House’s Guidelines for Opening America based on the “Proposed State or Regional Gating Criteria," and released details of some of the first Arizona health care workers, including ADHS Director Dr. Cara Christ, who were among the first to receive the vaccine.
New measures to mitigate the spread include: - Vaccine sites opening on Thursday, December 17th in Pima County and North Phoenix
- Vaccine to be administered in nursing homes before the end of the month
- $15 million to the Department of Health Services for public health emergency needs

National Eviction Moratorium Update
A new COVID-19 stimulus deal reached Sunday will extend the national eviction moratorium through Jan. 31, 2021. The existing halt on evictions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was set to expire on December 31, 2020. Renters must meet certain qualifications and also submit a declaration form to their landlords.

Safety Supply Kits Still Available for Pick Up
To help businesses who have been affected by COVID-19, the City of Tempe has allocated funds to provide up to 1,000 small businesses with items needed to protect its staff and customers. Businesses can receive:
-50 reusable cloth masks -5 clear masks -2 one liter bottles of hand sanitizer

City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing Updates
-Starting earlier this month, the City of Tempe began its Testing Tuesdays program. Every Tuesday, ASU, the City of Tempe and Tempe Fire Medical Rescue will offer free COVID-19 saliva tests at Cahill Senior Center. Those interested in a test should make a reservation here.

Apply Now for Emergency Rent, Mortgage Funds Through City of Tempe
Nearly $2 million in new emergency rent and mortgage assistance is available through the City of Tempe to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic remain housed. Applicants must live or work in Tempe and meet income and other requirements. Those approved can receive up to $10,000 or six months in assistance; funds can be used for back payments. |

New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents
A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income. Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help.
