City of Tempe Invests Roughly $4 Million to Expand and Strengthen Services for Domestic Violence Victims
As Tempe recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the city is investing roughly $4 million to expand and strengthen emergency housing, victim advocacy, counseling and youth services for individuals and families in the community. The additional funding comes at a time when domestic violence calls are on the rise in Tempe and across the nation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents
A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available starting October 5, 2020, to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income. Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help. $500,000 in Nonprofit Grants Available
Nonprofit organizations can apply for new grant funds as part of the City of Tempe’s COVID recovery efforts. A total of $500,000 is being made available for COVID-19 Relief for Nonprofit (CRFN) grants.
The funds will support nonprofits that work to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic among children and youth, older adults, moderate and low-income households, immigrants and refugees, individuals with disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Announced Today: Mask Up for the Halloween Stroll
The Halloween Stroll returns to downtown Tempe for its third year on Oct. 25! This year will be a little different, but the thrill of trick-or-treating will continue.
“We love to host these smaller activations that bring families to downtown Tempe,” Kate Borders, Executive Director of the Downtown Tempe Authority, said. “It’s important to create safe, family-friendly events that support our merchants and give families something fun to do in an open-air environment.”
The Halloween Stroll is free to the public from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. and we hope to see our downtown greeted by ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes of all ages. This modified event will be socially-distant friendly and will take place in an outdoor, open-air environment.
