City of Tempe Invests Roughly $4 Million to Expand and Strengthen Services for Domestic Violence Victims

As Tempe recognizes October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the city is investing roughly $4 million to expand and strengthen emergency housing, victim advocacy, counseling and youth services for individuals and families in the community.
The additional funding comes at a time when domestic violence calls are on the rise in Tempe and across the nation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The funds bolster already robust victim services coordinated by the city’s Human Services and Tempe Police departments. View the full City of Tempe article.

The Women in Business Council mentoring program applications are now available to any Tempe Chamber member! In addition, the Women in Business Council will be holding a recruitment information mixer on Thursday, October 8, 2020 via Zoom, beginning at 5:00 pm. COVID-19 Testing Locations

Whether you have COVID-like symptoms or have been around someone with COVID-like symptoms, it's always a good idea to get a diagnostic test. According to the City of Tempe, an estimated 40% of positive COVID-19 cases are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.  Find the nearest testing location to you.

New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents

A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available starting October 5, 2020, to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income.
Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help. View the full City of Tempe article. 
$500,000 in Nonprofit Grants Available

Nonprofit organizations can apply for new grant funds as part of the City of Tempe’s COVID recovery efforts. A total of $500,000 is being made available for COVID-19 Relief for Nonprofit (CRFN) grants.

The funds will support nonprofits that work to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic among children and youth, older adults, moderate and low-income households, immigrants and refugees, individuals with disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Small Business Administration Accepting New Applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program 2.0

Maricopa County has opened the second phase of the Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program.  Different from Phase 1, the new eligibility qualifications provide additional flexibility to new & already awarded applicants. Learn more about this refined program and apply by October 30, 2020. 
U.S. Small Business Administration Loan Clinic

During the first Wednesday of each month, learn about SBA’s lending role and how to prepare a request for capital. This free monthly clinic will help attendees understand credit requirements, interest rates, collateral terms, and amounts available. Click here for more information.

Announced Today: Mask Up for the Halloween Stroll

The Halloween Stroll returns to downtown Tempe for its third year on Oct. 25! This year will be a little different, but the thrill of trick-or-treating will continue.

“We love to host these smaller activations that bring families to downtown Tempe,” Kate Borders, Executive Director of the Downtown Tempe Authority, said. “It’s important to create safe, family-friendly events that support our merchants and give families something fun to do in an open-air environment.”

The Halloween Stroll is free to the public from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. and we hope to see our downtown greeted by ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes of all ages. This modified event will be socially-distant friendly and will take place in an outdoor, open-air environment. Families will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat with downtown Tempe merchants and collect some scrumptious candy. View the full City of Tempe release.

University of Phoenix and Maricopa Community Colleges Offer New Cost-Effective Path for Degrees 

The University of Phoenix and the Maricopa Community Colleges announced a new agreement that will allow students to more easily transfer their college credits to the university to earn a bachelor’s degree in management, health management, nursing and information technology. On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, CAP will host it's first course of the CAP University, Introduction to CAP, from 8:00 to 11:00 am. This course will give an overview of the program and CAP system.
