The Workforce Demand Study, a regional survey conducted by six Valley Chambers, including the Tempe Chamber, has released its results. The findings of the study were further analyzed based on business size that was broken down into three categories: 10 or fewer employees, 11 to 100 employees, and over 100 employees. In total, there were 209 respondents.

So, what does this mean for business? There are a few things to keep in mind when mulling over the results of the survey.

Gill to Serve on Chamber Executives Association Board

Anne Gill,the President/CEO of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, has been elected to serve a one-year term on the Board of the Western Association of Chamber Executives (W.A.C.E.).

W.A.C.E. is an association of chamber of commerce executives and staff professionals with approximately 850 members in 18 Western states and Canada. The association is designed to promote and enhance the professional development of chamber of commerce executives and is the largest state or regional chamber of commerce executives association in the United States.

Raveen Arora restaurateur and owner of the iconic Dhaba restaurant was named the winner of the coveted Spirit of Hospitality Award for embodying the core values of diversity, inclusion, dignity, and empathy.

Tempe restaurateur Arora is the recipient of countless local, national, and international awards for his humanitarian work, service, and enterprise. The Tempe entrepreneur was honored on January 31st at a special annual luncheon with his wife, Clara, in attendance.

Nearly 250,000 More Hotel Rooms Rented!
Tourism revenues greatly increased in Tempe last year, with almost a quarter of a million more rooms rented in 2018 than two years earlier.

According to the Tempe Tourism Office, in 2018, $175 million in hotel room sales were generated, an increase of about 12 percent from 2017. This is $36 million more than 2016.

A 501(c)3 human services nonprofit since 1972, TCC has a mission to “connect those in need with those who care.” They work closely with a variety of nonprofits to address human services issues in Tempe and has an affiliation with the City of Tempe to oversee and manage the City’s human services funding distributed annually to over 40 local service providers.

Applications are being accepted until March 1.  

ADOT Transportation Studies Interstate 10 - Broadway Curve
The Arizona Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and the Maricopa Association of Governments, is studying and designing preliminary concepts for improvements to the I-10 Broadway Curve area between I-17 (Split) and Loop 202 (Santan Freeway). The study team is conducting an Environmental Assessment in advance of making proposed improvements.

APS Lowering Utility Bills Again
APS is lowering residential customer's monthly bills by an average of $3. Rates are already an average of $9.59 lower than those in March of 2018.

Lower natural gas prices and other interstate deals are allowing them to pass on an $80 million rate reduction to their Arizona residential customers.
