Tempe Chamber of Commerce Announces Prop 207 Webinar: How to Prepare Your Workplace for Recreational Marijuana
In partnership with the Employers Council of Arizona, the Tempe Chamber of Commerce announces Prop 207: How to Prepare Your Workplace for Recreational Marijuana; an hour-long webinar on what this newly-passed proposition means for your business.
Featuring Employer Council Staff Attorney Glenn Pelster, this webinar will not only outline employers' obligations under Arizona's marijuana and drug testing statutes, but will identify effective strategies when dealing with employment issues that accompany legalization of recreational marijuana.

Last week, DoorDash virtually rang the Opening Bell to mark their listing on the New York Stock Exchange, and according to an article written by the New York Times, "DoorDash stock rose 86 percent above its initial public offering price of $102 to close the day at $189.51."

Nominations for MLK Diversity Award Due Today
Hosted annually by the City of Tempe and the Human Relations Commission, the MLK Diversity Awards honor people who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion and who exemplify the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Awards are given to adults, students, businesses and organizations. Individuals must live, work or volunteer in Tempe. Businesses must be located in Tempe. Announced today, Downtown Tempe Association will be hosting a virtual State of Downtown. Usually held at an iconic downtown Tempe destination and hosted by the Downtown Tempe Authority, this year's event has been edited together for a video of their dedicated staff as they share last year’s accomplishments and vision for the future. Mayor Corey Woods Updates Extension of Premises Permit
On December 8th, Mayor Corey D. Woods signed an updated Extension of Premises Permit proclamation to allow Tempe bars and restaurants to be eligible for a new State of Arizona grant program and to continue to allow the temporary extension of premises permits through May 9, 2021. This extension may be granted upon application, expedited review and approval of the city’s Special Events Taskforce. Additional review and approval is required by the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control for establishments with a liquor license. Enforcement measures may be taken if a business extends its premises without City of Tempe authorization.
The new State of Arizona “Safest Outside Restaurant Assistance Program” also offers grants of up to $10,000 that restaurants can use to buy outdoor furniture, equipment and other supplies. Businesses may apply here.

City of Tempe Seeks Input on Marijuana Regulations
Due to the passage of Prop 207, the City of Tempe is inviting its residents to take a survey regarding the aspects of the ordinance that Tempe can regulate. Once results are tabulated, a proposed ordinance will be crafted and sent to both the Development Review Commission and the Tempe City Council. City of Tempe Awards $1.2 Million in Grants to Small Businesses
To help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Tempe awarded $1.2 million in grants earlier this month to about 183 Tempe-based businesses. Nearly 230 businesses applied for funds.
The hospitality industry, one of the hardest-hit sectors of the economy, received the highest percentage of funding - 47%. Health care and social assistance was the second highest, receiving 13%.

If you are unable to isolate at home, by staying in your own room with your own bathroom, Maricopa County Public Health has hotel space available for this purpose. If you are interested in using a hotel room to isolate, please complete this 3-question form and Public Health will call you by phone.

Safety Supply Kits Still Available for Pick Up
To help businesses who have been affected by COVID-19, the City of Tempe has allocated funds to provide up to 1,000 small businesses with items needed to protect its staff and customers. Businesses can receive:
-50 reusable cloth masks -5 clear masks -2 one liter bottles of hand sanitizer

City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing Updates
-Starting earlier this month, the City of Tempe began its Testing Tuesdays program. Every Tuesday, ASU, the City of Tempe and Tempe Fire Medical Rescue will offer free COVID-19 saliva tests at Cahill Senior Center. Those interested in a test should make a reservation here.

Apply Now for Emergency Rent, Mortgage Funds Through City of Tempe
Nearly $2 million in new emergency rent and mortgage assistance is available through the City of Tempe to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic remain housed. Applicants must live or work in Tempe and meet income and other requirements. Those approved can receive up to $10,000 or six months in assistance; funds can be used for back payments. |

New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents
A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income. Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help.
