Urban District Consumer Survey Results Released

Yesterday, Downtown Tempe Authority announced the release of the second Urban District Consumer Survey results, in partnership with the International Downtown Association. Some of the key takeaways include:
  • More respondents in Tempe feel that both the public and business response to the pandemic was not as safe and thorough as it should have been.
  • Dining outdoors and shopping in stores are the two activities people feel most comfortable with. Tempe is fortunate to be at the start of the outdoor dining season.
  • 57% are working remotely due to Covid with only 14% expecting to return to the office within 6 months.
  • 46% expect to spend less on the holidays this year than normal with just 4% expecting to spend more.
  • 55% expect their online shopping to increase and just 6% expect to spend more in stores than a normal year.

Tempe Chamber Military Affairs Committee Toys for Tots Drive

This Friday, Tempe Chamber's Military Affairs Committee will be hosting a Toys for Tots Drive at MAC6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a new and unwrapped toy or check made out to "Toys for Tots - Maricopa" and help "Fill A Truck!" 

 
Emerging Issues Forum: Building Workplace Diversity and Inclusion

Taking place on December 11, 2020, beginning at 8 a.m., Emerging Issues Forum: Building Workplace Diversity & Inclusion will bring together a panel of diversity and inclusion leaders from different industry sectors to share tangible ways they have advocated for equity in their workplace.

Earlier today, Nominations for the Az Business Angels Awards were announced and included several Tempe Chamber members.

Shop With A Cop Challenge

ECD Systems recently joined the Tempe Chamber and has already become an active member. ECD has a long history of giving back to the community supporting organizations like St. Mary’s Food Bank, The Phoenix Zoo, Ryan House and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. 

This Christmas, ECD Systems is focusing its annual employee fundraiser and Christmas raffle to support the Tempe Police Foundations Shop With A Cop program. ECD Owners Mike and Ben will double the employee donations and raffle proceeds and hopes to gift over $3,000 to the Foundation. City of Tempe COVID-19 Testing Updates
  • Starting on December 8th, the City of Tempe will begin its Testing Tuesdays program. Every Tuesday, ASU, the City of Tempe and Tempe Fire Medical Rescue will offer free COVID-19 saliva tests at Cahill Senior Center, also located at 715 W. Fifth St. Those interested in a test should make a reservation here. 
  • The City of Tempe will offer free COVID-19 saliva tests in partnership with ASU Biodesign Institute, Tempe Fire Medical Rescue and Care7 on December 2nd and 3rd at Westside Multigenerational Center, 715 W. Fifth St. The tests will be especially helpful as they occur five and six days after Thanksgiving, when people may have experienced exposure to relatives not typically in their home circle.

Downtown Tempe Authority Announces Holiday Pop-Up

On December 6, 2020, Downtown Tempe Authority will be hosting another Holiday Pop-Up at 6th Street Park in Downtown Tempe. This open-air, outside activation will have over 50 socially distant vendors that will definitely have that unique something you'll want during the holidays. Nominations Now Open for MLK Diversity Award

Hosted annually by the City of Tempe and the Human Relations Commission, the MLK Diversity Awards honor people who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion and who exemplify the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

Awards are given to adults, students, businesses and organizations. Individuals must live, work or volunteer in Tempe. Businesses must be located in Tempe. Current elected officials and Human Relations Commissioners are not eligible for awards.

Maricopa Small Business Forum 

On December 3, 2020, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and U.S. Department of Treasury will be hosting a Maricopa County Small Business Forum that will provide a brief overview of small business lending conditions during the pandemic, and showcase options available to assist small businesses. This virtual event will feature nonprofits and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) who provide technical assistance and alternative financing options which provide access to capital and support small business growth.

Apply Now for Emergency Rent, Mortgage Funds Through City of Tempe

Nearly $2 million in new emergency rent and mortgage assistance is available through the City of Tempe to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic remain housed. Applicants must live or work in Tempe and meet income and other requirements. Those approved can receive up to $10,000 or six months in assistance; funds can be used for back payments. 
 
 
New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents

A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income.
 
Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help. View the full City of Tempe article. 
Small Business Administration Accepting New Applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

The Small Business Administration is still accepting new applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) of up to $10,000. Click here for more information.
