Tempe Chamber of Commerce Releases New 2021 Policy Agendas
Yesterday, the Tempe Chamber of Commerce released its 2021 Local and Federal Policy Agendas. These documents, released annually, outline the legislative priorities of the business community for our local, state, and federal government. The Chamber’s agendas are developed by its Government Relations & Transportation Committee comprised of chamber members with final approval given by the board of directors.

Military Affairs Copper 5 Honors This Friday, the Tempe Chamber Military Affairs Committee (MAC) will host the Annual Copper 5 Honors event, broadcasted LIVE from the 161st Refueling Wing. This FREE event will honor both an outstanding officer and enlisted member of the 161st Air Refueling Wing to commemorate members of the Copper 5 aircrew. Registration will close Thursday, November 12th at Noon.

2021 Mentoring Program New Dates & Extended Deadline
The Tempe Chamber's Women in Business Council has updated the 2021 Mentoring Program to allow for a more efficient timeline. The new program timeline runs February through April with two workshops monthly. Graduation will still be held in May at the 2021 Leadership Conference. The 2021 program will have reduced program fee of $99 for proteges wishing to participate. The new application deadline for Mentors and Proteges is December 15, 2020. |

Governor Ducey Announces Resources to Support Small Businesses, Business Recruitment and Hospitality Industry
Arizona’s small businesses and hospitality sector have been especially hard hit by the pandemic, with thousands of jobs lost since March. To provide a boost to these critical sectors and the Arizonans they employ, on November 6, 2020, Governor Ducey announced $7 million to support economic recovery efforts.
The funding includes: - $4 million for the Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT)
- $2 million for the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA)
- $1 million for local chambers of commerce to implement programs that accelerate local economic recovery related to COVID-19.

City of Tempe COVID-19 Update
Maricopa County is putting federal CARES Act funds to good use by offering a number of assistance programs to help residents with their physical and financial health. These programs remove the financial barriers to getting a COVID-19 test or flu vaccination, provide financial assistance to people struggling to pay their rent or utility costs and support businesses and nonprofits with grants to cover financial losses incurred during the pandemic.

Downtown Tempe Authority Needs Your Help!
Downtown Tempe Authority, the Business Improvement District for downtown Tempe, has partnered with the International Downtown Association to gather consumer opinions with a second, updated survey (you may have taken the initial Urban District Consumer Survey). As COVID continues to profoundly impact our community, it is more important than ever to know the priorities, concerns and behaviors of our office workers, residents and consumers.
With that in mind, Downtown Tempe Authority, in partnership with the International Downtown Association and RRC Associates, is launching Wave 2 of our Covid-19 Downtown District Sentiment Survey. Based on feedback and suggestions from Wave 1 participants, we have added new questions to address shopping, special events and transportation issues. Learn more and take the survey today. |

Arts and Culture Head Ralph Remington to Leave Tempe
Ralph Remington, deputy director for arts and culture for the City of Tempe, will leave the city at the end of 2020. A national search for his replacement will begin soon.
Remington, who came to Tempe in 2016, will serve as Director of Cultural Affairs for the San Francisco Arts Commission. Remington will serve in Tempe until Dec. 31.

Applications for Arizona Small Business Rent and Mortgage Relief Grants
The Arizona Small Business Rent and Mortgage Relief Grant is open for gyms, fitness centers and studios, bars with a series 6 or 7 liquor license, water parks, tubing operators, and movie theaters seeking rent relief. Since launching in August, the LFAF has approved over $8.5 million in rent relief to nearly 650 local businesses across the state.
Grants are prioritized for businesses that are most in need of the funding to meet their rent or mortgage obligations and do not have access to other financial support. See frequently asked questions here. Submit your application and see more information here. |
