City presented by Edward Jones will be
held as a live broadcast on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 8:00 a.m.

The 22nd annual event will feature newly
elected Mayor Corey Woods, who will
discuss his personal experiences since
becoming mayor, highlight the city’s
recent response to the pandemic, the resiliency of the community and plans for the near future. In addition to his remarks, Mayor Woods will sit down for a fire-side chat with Anne Gill, Tempe Chamber President and CEO. Learn more and register today!

Military Affairs Committee Copper 5 Event & Silent Auction

On November 13, 2020, the Tempe Chamber Military Affairs Committee (MAC) will host the Annual Copper 5 Honors event, broadcasted LIVE from the 161st Refueling Wing. This event will honor both an outstanding office and enlisted member of the 161st Air Refueling Wing to commemorate members of the Copper 5 aircrew killed in 1982.


During the program, the MAC will open an online silent auction to serve as a pre-holiday fundraiser for the committee. If your company would like to donate an item, you must fill out the online form. In order to be included in the online auction, you are responsible for emailing, mailing, or dropping off the donation to the Tempe Chamber by Tuesday, November 10, 2020. 
 
2020-21 Mentoring Program Applications Extended Through October 30, 2020

The Women in Business Council mentoring program applications are now available to any Tempe Chamber member! To learn more, you can download the Mentoring Program Overview which includes program benefits, the entire program schedule and sponsorship information.

Tempe Safety Supply Program

COVID-19 has affected every business in our community and beyond. To help, the City of Tempe has allocated some of its CARES Act funds to provide 150 of our small businesses with items needed to protect staff and customers. 

Businesses may receive free masks and hand sanitizer from the City of Tempe. Product quantities are based on the number of staff members a business employs. Registration is required and closes on October 22, 2020.

(Registered businesses may pick up their packages from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26 at the Tempe/APS Joint Fire Training Center, 1340 E. University Dr., Tempe)
 
Tempe Expanding Fitness Center, Gym and Library Services

Tempe continues to evaluate its service offerings during the COVID-19 pandemic using local, state and federal data to guide the process. As of yesterday, fitness centers and gymnasiums at Escalante Community Center, Kiwanis Recreation Center and North Tempe Multi-Generational Center have reopened to the public with limits on use, capacity and hours of operation. Urban Core Master Plan Update

On October 14, 2020, the City of Tempe announced the latest on the Urban Core Master Plan (UCMP), Urban Code District (UCD), Development Bonus Program (DBP) and related General Plan Amendment (GPA) Application. After a two-year planning process, the City of Tempe has removed the plan from the October 15, 2020, Tempe City Council agenda. 

"While the plan as a whole isn't moving forward, substantial information was learned during the planning process and specific pieces have moved forward," stated in a recent City of Tempe article. Learn more today. 
 
U.S. Small Business Administration to Host Veteran Supportive Webinar 

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the U.S. Small Business Administration Arizona District Office 
is hosting a FREE webinar to discuss Special Veteran Services and Programs, such as starting a business development plan and financing your business.

City, state and Federal elections are just two weeks away. The Maricopa County Elections Department has many online tools to help answer questions about what is on the ballot, how to register, how to request an early ballot and much more. You can event sign up for text alerts about when your ballot is mailed and received. COVID-19 Testing Locations

Whether you have COVID-like symptoms or have been around someone with COVID-like symptoms, it's always a good idea to get a diagnostic test. According to the City of Tempe, an estimated 40% of positive COVID-19 cases are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.  Find the nearest testing location to you.

Tempe Small Business Grant Program

Recently announced, the City of Tempe has allocated $1.1 million in CARES Act funds to create the Tempe Small Business Grant Program to help small businesses who have experienced significant impacts due to COVID-19. 

The Tempe Small Business Grant Program will assist small business by helping with up to $10,000 in funding. Awards are based on $1,300 per full-time employee up to a maximum of $10,000, whichever amount is less. The goal is that by providing businesses money to meet their expenses, they can retain or hire staff. Applications are now open. CLICK HERE to learn more and apply.
New Financial Navigator Available for Tempe Residents

A new no-cost Financial Navigator Program is available to help residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic connect with financial resources, understand how to work with creditors and maximize their income.
 
Residents will get one-on-one assistance over the phone and can tailor a plan to their specific needs, everything from applying for rent assistance to managing college loans to finding free tax help. View the full City of Tempe article. 
$500,000 in Nonprofit Grants Available

Nonprofit organizations can apply for new grant funds as part of the City of Tempe’s COVID recovery efforts. A total of $500,000 is being made available for COVID-19 Relief for Nonprofit (CRFN) grants.

The funds will support nonprofits that work to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic among children and youth, older adults, moderate and low-income households, immigrants and refugees, individuals with disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness. Small Business Administration Accepting New Applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

The Small Business Administration is still accepting new applications for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) of up to $10,000. Click here for more information.  
Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program 2.0

Maricopa County has opened the second phase of the Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program.  Different from Phase 1, the new eligibility qualifications provide additional flexibility to new & already awarded applicants. Learn more about this refined program and apply by October 30, 2020. 
 
U.S. Small Business Administration Loan Clinic

During the first Wednesday of each month, learn about SBA’s lending role and how to prepare a request for capital. This free monthly clinic will help attendees understand credit requirements, interest rates, collateral terms, and amounts available. Click here for more information. 
 
Applications for Arizona Small Business Rent and Mortgage Relief Grants

The Arizona Small Business Rent and Mortgage Relief Grant is open for gyms, fitness centers and studios, bars with a series 6 or 7 liquor license, water parks, tubing operators, and movie theaters seeking rent relief. Since launching in August, the LFAF has approved over $8.5 million in rent relief to nearly 650 local businesses across the state.

Grants are prioritized for businesses that are most in need of the funding to meet their rent or mortgage obligations and do not have access to other financial support.

Southwest Airlines Now Offers Service to Mexico 

According to a recent article in Chamber Business News, Arizonans now have new non-stop flight options to both Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico every day of the week.

Southwest Airlines announced it is making Phoenix Sky Harbor airport its newest international gateway. The airline also is adding other routes here and across the country. Starting Nov. 15, travelers from Phoenix can fly multiple times daily to Palm Springs as well...learn more and view the full article today.
 
City of Tempe Needs Your Help Planning the Future of the Tempe Community Center Campus

Tempe is developing a master plan that will guide improvements and new developments at the Tempe Community Center Campus for the next 30 years. The campus is home to Tempe Public Library, Tempe History Museum, Edna Vihel Arts Center and Pyle Recreation Center, making it a hub of activity in the center of the city. The plan will provide recommendations on use of space, pedestrian connectivity, complex visibility, and environmental improvements. It will also evaluate the needs of the campus, including an expansion of space for the Human Services Department.
