US Chamber President Live at the 2020 Leadership Conference & Virtual Expo
US Chamber President Suzanne Clark will join us from Washington D.C. during next week’s live broadcast of the 2020 Leadership Conference & Virtual Expo. She’ll be discussing the US Chamber’s Equality of Opportunity Initiative launched in June of this year.

The City of Tempe’s Equity and Inclusion Manager Jonae Harrison will be on hand to dive deeper into the policies within the program’s agenda. To learn more about next week’s conference and how to register, visit the online registration website.

Greg Stanton Receives Spirit of Enterprise Award
On September 2, 2020, the Tempe Chamber in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce presented the 2020 Spirit of Enterprise Award to Congressman Greg Stanton, Representative of Congressional District 9. The award recognizes members of Congress who consistently supported pro-growth policies and committed to bipartisan leadership and constructive governing in 2019. Click here to learn more.

The 2020 Leadership Conference Silent Auction is LIVE!

The 2020 Leadership Conference Silent Auction, sponsored by FISH Window Cleaning, has officially launched through a virtual auction website! With over 25 items from community leaders and Chamber members, this silent auction will help support the Chamber's mission in sustaining Tempe’s quality of life and keeping our community and economy vibrant.  The online auction closes half way through the Leadership Conference at 10:00 am on September 18, 2020.

Tempe Reopens Park Playgrounds, Splash Play Areas, and Kiwanis Tennis Center

Tempe continues to carefully and thoughtfully reopen, using county, state and federal benchmarks to guide the process. Last Friday, September 4, 2020, all neighborhood park playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment reopened to the community. Read the full City of Tempe article here.

 Tempe Public Library Closure

Now through Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the Tempe Pubic Library will be closed for electrical maintenance. The library will reopen for hold pickups on Thursday, September 10, 2020. View the full City of Tempe article here. 
 
COVID-19 Testing Locations

Whether you have COVID-like symptoms or have been around someone with COVID-like symptoms, it's always a good idea to get a diagnostic test. According to the City of Tempe, an estimated 40% of positive COVID-19 cases are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.  Find the nearest testing location to you.

City of Tempe Launches New Financial Navigator Program 

The City of Tempe, in partnership with the national nonprofit Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), is launching a free Financial Navigators program to help residents navigate critical financial issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Tempe’s Human Services Department has been awarded a new $80,000 grant to implement the program. Navigators will provide one-on-one assistance over the phone to help residents access available programs and services to manage income disruptions and other financial concerns. Small Business Administration Accepting New Applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

Last month, the Small Business Administration announced it would begin accepting new applications for the Ecnonomic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) of up to $10,000. Click here for more information.  
Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program 2.0

Maricopa County has opened the second phase of the Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program.  Different from Phase 1, the new eligibility qualifications provide additional flexibility to new & already awarded applicants. Learn more about this refined program and apply by October 2, 2020. 
U.S. Small Business Administration Loan Clinic

During the first Wednesday of each month, learn about SBA’s lending role and how to prepare a request for capital. This free monthly clinic will help attendees understand credit requirements, interest rates, collateral terms, and amounts available. Click here for more information.

Rio Salado College Expands Educational Opportunities to Students in Prison as 2020 U.S. Dept. of Ed. Second Chance Pell Experimental Site 

The U.S. Department of Education has included Rio Salado College as part of an expansion of the Second Chance Pell  Experimental Sites Initiative, which was created to provide need-based Pell grants for people incarcerated in state and federal prisons to pursue higher learning. The majority of incarcerated individuals are Pell-eligible; however, they have been banned from applying for assistance since 1994— until the creation of the Second Chance Pell initiative was launched in 2015.
