City of Tempe Launches New Financial Navigator Program 

The City of Tempe, in partnership with the national nonprofit Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund), is launching a free Financial Navigators program to help residents navigate critical financial issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Tempe’s Human Services Department has been awarded a new $80,000 grant to implement the program. Navigators will provide one-on-one assistance over the phone to help residents access available programs and services to manage income disruptions and other financial concerns. COVID-19 Testing Locations

Whether you have COVID-like symptoms or have been around someone with COVID-like symptoms, it's always a good idea to get a diagnostic test. According to the City of Tempe, an estimated 40% of positive COVID-19 cases are either asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic.  Find the nearest testing location to you.
 
City of Tempe Adds Bicycle and Pedestrian Connectivity 

Just recently, the City of Tempe completed two bicycle and pedestrian projects to allow for continuous, off-street, low-stress riding and walking. Read more about the Rio Salado Muti-use Path Underpass at McClinktock Drive and Western Canal Multi-use Path Extension.
 
Provide Feedback on Proposed Ideas for Rio Salado and Beach Park Master Plan

Would an aerial experience appeal to you? Or maybe you’re more of an aquatics-lover. The responses are in for the Rio Salado and Beach Park Master Plan Request for Information (RFI), which solicited ideas from the business community to activate the area surrounding Tempe Town Lake. The community is invited to a virtual meeting to provide input on the four idea categories that emerged from the RFI; Water, Land, Aerial, Support amenities. View the open house dates and more information here.

Updates from the Office of Governor Doug Ducey

September 1, 2020: Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order deferring requirements to renew standard driver licenses that have an expiration date between March 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 by one year from their original expiration date. This action will minimize in-person visits to Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) Offices and help contain the spread of COVID-19. Read the full news release here.

Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership Offers Assistance to Manufacturers Affected by COVID-19

On August 20, 2020, Arizona Commerce Authority’s Arizona Manufacturing Extension Partnership (AZ MEP) announced they are accepting applications from Arizona manufacturers in need of assistance as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The enhanced support is made possible by a one-time allocation as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, awarded to AZ MEP by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Small Business Administration Accepting New Applications for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL)

Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program 2.0

Maricopa County has opened the second phase of the Maricopa County Small Business Relief Program.  Different from Phase 1, the new eligibility qualifications provide additional flexibility to new & already awarded applicants. Learn more about this refined program and apply by October 2, 2020. 
U.S. Small Business Administration Loan Clinic

During the first Wednesday of each month, learn about SBA’s lending role and how to prepare a request for capital. This free monthly clinic will help attendees understand credit requirements, interest rates, collateral terms, and amounts available. Click here for more information.

Stay Cool Cruising the Zoo! 

A message from the Phoenix Zoo: 

Due to overwhelming requests by our members and the community, we have added more dates for Cruise the Zoo! We have enjoyed this experience as much as our guests – and due to popular demand, we have now scheduled Cruise the Zoo for Friday, September 4 – Monday, September 7, and Friday, September 11 – Sunday, September 13 as well as Friday, September 25 –Sunday, September 27. Hours will be limited to 7 a.m. – noon, with all cars needing to be in line by 11 a.m. We will be accommodating up to 450 vehicles per day. Cruise the Zoo allows guests to view a variety of Zoo animals such as flamingos, giraffes, elephants and more while maintaining safe social distancing measures. SRP Grants Sixteen Schools with Funds to Further History and Social Science Programs

Teachers are students across the Valley and Florence are starting the school year with new tools to help them learn more about history and social science thanks to grants by SRP. The History and Social Science Grant program, which awarded more than $32,000 to 16 schools, provides a unique opportunity for schools and teachers to develop projects and programs that improve student performance in the interrelated disciplines of history, geography, civics, government, and economics. Grants are up to $2,500 per school.
 
Salt River Project annually contributes more than $1.3 million to education initiatives, grants and partnerships and provides free training and resources to educators throughout the state.
