-Yesterday Governor Doug Ducey issued executive order Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected which will take effect today at 5:00 p.m. and remain in effect until at least April 30. -Late yesterday, Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell issued a proclamation to close all city parks amenities and ramadas. Read the full story

-The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated $350 billion to help small businesses keep workers employed amid the pandemic and economic downturn. Known as the Paycheck Protection Program, the initiative provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to small businesses who maintain their payroll during this emergency. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has issued a useful guide to help small businesses and self-employed individuals prepare to file for a loan. Hownd, Inc has launched a program to help local restaurants, salons and family entertainment centers quickly and effectively sell Support vouchers (similar to gift vouchers, but better) directly to consumers. Tempe Streetcar Update
Tempe Streetcar Update
Construction status:Valley Metro and the city of Tempe are working together to investigate how to optimize construction in the coming weeks while vehicular and pedestrian traffic are low. Stakeholders will be notified in advance before any additional construction is implemented near businesses or residences.

  • [UPDATE]5th Street/Ash Avenue Intersection: Crews will continue to work along Ash Avenue at 5th Street from March 30 – April 17 resulting in intermittent nightly closures of 5th Street at Ash Avenue and one daytime closure on April 9. North/southbound through traffic on Ash Avenue will be maintained. Click here for more details.
  • [NEW]Apache Boulevard: Over the next few weeks you will begin to see Overhead Catenary System poles being installed. This will happen fairly quickly, expect lane drops in the area of where they are being installed.
  • [NEW]Apache Blvd at Normal Avenue: Expect turn restrictions at the intersection with possible sidewalk/crosswalk detours.
  • Apache Blvd east of Rural Road: Track installation and OCS foundation work continues. Traffic maintained in both directions. Expect turn restrictions and possible sidewalk/crosswalk detours.
  • Apache Blvd at Dorsey Lane: Electrical upgrades in intersection. Turns will be restricted. Pedestrian access to Dorsey light rail platform will be maintained.
  • [NEW]Mill Avenue south of University Drive: Milling for trackwork is scheduled for the start of April. Traffic will be maintained in both directions. Expect turn restrictions and possible crosswalk/sidewalk detours.
